I was listening to a YouTube podcast yesterday where AI (a marketing term with no value) was mentioned a couple of times in terms of using it to think of questions for podcast guests and to use it to scrape transcripts for ideas.
Both of those ideas suck. Algorithms/ML have their place in R&D, reviewing medical scans, things like that. Using them in a creative endeavor is to fundamentally misunderstand creativity itself. Why should anyone take the time to engage with something a fancy tab-complete engine has produced? Why should I take my one wild and precious life and waste it on hallucinations from machines that are incredibly resource intensive?
Frank Herbert and his idea of a war against the thinking machines was correct. The only ppl that are really pumped up about the use of AI in writing/music/film/etc are dumb people. The worst people. The sort of influencers and boss types that think they can get money for nothing, literally. That ChatGPT will do the work for them and make the money roll in.
Its quite possible the internet was a mistake.
No one is asking for LLMs to clog up the internet and spam lies and keep coal plants burning. Its just going to be an endless number of spam bots out there scamming each other while we end up like this.
